It is not a search engine that coughs up a bunch of websites you have to wade through, it’s more a knowledge base that basically gives you the answer you are looking for. You can throw a lot of different questions at it, from solving mathematical equasions, via statistic/demographic data to existentialistic questions (are we alone, does God exists), and the lot inbetween.

Ofcourse it is not a replacement for Google and other search engines, also not a replacement for Wikipedia…….but maybe the three of them could be regarded as the ‘holy trinity’ to find/access data on the net.

First I started using Pulse to read websites via rss feeds, but since a few days I’m using Flipbook. Many websites also tweet websites updates as with rss. Pulse is a very nice rss client, but Flipbook is taking it one step further as it presents the content as a paper, periodical, magazine, glossy. To summarize: Pulse is a programmers approach, Flipbook is the art-director approach how to display website updates.

Ofcourse, indirectly you still use Safari in a way, or the core webkit component.

Imho, apps like Pulse and Flipbook reinvented the webbrowser and I would not be surprised if these apps also will migrate from the iPad to regular desk/laptop systems.
